Last Sunday my wife and I were skiing Crested Butte and somewhat on a whim decided to stop into The Ice Bar at Uley’s Cabin for lunch. It was a bit chilly that day and snowing lightly so we opted to dine inside the cabin. Wow! What a great place. It’s everything you’d expect for a rustic on-mountain experience. Cozy, comfortable, great staff and of course great food. In fact, we didn’t get much past appetizers and salads. For starters I ordered the Forest Mushroom Bisque and my wife had the English Pea with Caramelized Fennel Creme Fraiche. Both soups were hearty and warming but not starchy, just what we liked.

Next I had the Caesar Salad and she had Mushroom Salad with Bleu Cheese and Pear. Both were exquisite. In between courses, the chef send out some tomato, duck and arugula tasters that were incredible. I complemented lunch with a Pinot Noir that was a bit dry but brought out the taste of the Forest Mushroom soup. All in all, Uley’s Cabin was an unexpected pleasure, one we’d recommend highly.

We’re thinking about reserving a place for one of the Sleighride Dinners to Uley’s so we can try the dinner menu and learn a bit more about local historical figure & bootlegger Uley Scheer himself!
